We've been working in speech technologies since 1997, beginning with voice
activated dialers running on VPro 88 and Antares cards. Things have changed alot
since then, but our focus on cutting-edge solutions hasn't. Some of the projects
we've been involved in are briefly described below.

VoIP Phone Installer System
A national cable provider
needed a system to allow their field service workers to install, provision,
and test VoIP phone lines. Working along with a VXML hosting provider, we
built a DTMF-based system in VXML that integrated with back-end web services
and delivered the needed functionality over standard telephones. The system
went into production in Q4 of 2005.
Radio Messaging System
We lead the design of a unified messaging system for the ubiquitous two-way radios used by
police, warehouse workers, security officers, and field service personnel worldwide.
Starting with a core set of VXML modules written as a JSP custom tag library,
the design included voice user interfaces for both the radio and telephone, as well as a
web interface, allowing access to voicemail messages from all three devices. The system
will be available for retail sale shortly.
Automated Customer Service Portal
A national telecommunications provider needed a voice portal to allow their customers
to change their address, find local payment offices and billing addresses, cancel their
service and other self-service functions. We helped design and build a set of re-usable
modules impelemented in XML/XSLT - now referred to as XML Dialog Modules, or XDMs. The
XDMs are now the basis for all new applications that are added to the portal. The system
went live in 2003, and handles thousands of calls each day.
Field Survey System
When a service provider needed to provide a means for a large media distribution company
to check how well their retail outlets were handling their releases, we built a data-driven
survey system that allowed new surveys to be defined via a web interface, and then completed
by field representatives over the phone, immediately after visiting each retail location.
This system first went into use in 2001.
Time and Materials Reporting
Working with a VXML platform provider, we built a time and materials reporting system that
allowed a large utility services company to get daily information on crews in the field
reported via the telephone directly into their SAP back end, improving payroll turn around
time and the availability of profit/loss reporting on specific projects from months to days.
This system was awarded a spot on Speech Technology Magazine's list of Most Innovative
Solutions in the July/August 2003 edition.
